Friends. Forgiveness. Family

In Crystal Clear Love, childhood memories last forever. Flashbacks (to the characters' youth and young adult years) reflect a deeper understanding of current thoughts and actions. Four friends gather after ten years of separation. Friendships are rekindled and tested in real life situations. Pacts and secrets create barriers. Can honesty and forgiveness prevail? Several twists keep the reader wondering and cheering Crystal and Mike on to the very end.

Koontz’s fourth book is one that shines from the start, when best childhood friends Mike Perzelle, Crystal (Chrissy) Kenethey, and Sherrie Scotts are reunited at the funeral of Sherrie’s mom — beloved by everyone in their Margaretta Street neighborhood as “Mammaw.” For Mike and Chrissy, the Christmas-time reunion is particularly complicated and emotionally charged, dredging up memories of a first love and its abrupt and heartbreaking end.
Due to an unexpected holiday blizzard, Mike and Chrissy find themselves under the same roof as guests of Sherrie and her husband Johnner — a serendipitous stranding that changes their lives.
Throughout the book, Koontz skillfully weaves present and past — occasionally flashing back to “how it all started” among Mike, Chrissy, and Sherrie on Margaretta Street. Seeing glimpses of the “child” in each member of this trio adds depth to the story line and rewards the reader with a rich connection. You can’t help but love these people.
“Crystal Clear Love” evokes tears and smiles. And the twists and turns in Chrissy and Mike’s path will test the prediction first whispered to a teenaged Chrissy by a turbaned fortuneteller shortly after she met Mike: “You two are connected at the heart, my dear.”

Great Summer Read

I received a copy of the ARC in exchange for a fair an honest review.
One thing I found refreshing in this book was the believability of the characters. Too often romance novels are made up of heroes and heroines who are too good to be true, but that isn't the case when it comes to Crystal and Mike. They are down to earth and like most people, they make mistakes. It is those same mistakes and lack of communication which threaten to keep them apart.
Without giving anything away, I want to say that Crystal Clear Love had some nice twists and turns that I didn't see coming. I can't wait to read more by this talented author.
