Earl Browning, M.Ed., is a native of Logan, West Virginia. He currently serves as president of Telecoach, Inc. an organization that conducts football clinics and produces the Coach of the Year Football Manuals. A 1958 graduate of Marshall University, he earned his M.Ed. and Rank I education certification from the University of Louisville. From 1958 to 1975, he coached football at various Louisville-area high schools. Among the honors he has been accorded are his appointments to the National Football Foundation and to the College Hall of Fame Advisory Committee on moving the museum to South Bend, Indiana. He was named to the Greater Louisville Football Coaches Association Hall of Legends in 1998.

Average at Best, Terrible at Worst

I rate coaching books like this based on the articles within them. Overall, there are a few articles that are worthwhile. But overall, know when you buy these books that their taken from clinic talks, and won't be full of all the important information.

Several of the coaches the individual articles are about don't give enough information. Some of them seem like they're are gaps in the strategy of the defense. For instance, one really isn't even in a traditional 3-4 okie alignment with the linebackers for it's base look. I don't try to play last man with the chalk when reading books like this, but this one was disappointing.

The football coaching community still needs a good 3-4 book. This does not satisfy that need.

Great Book with Focus on Attention to Detail

First off, I am a Middle School coach. I am familiar with many different defensive schemes. With that being said, I really like this book. Each chapter is by a different coach with their own take on a 3-4 defensive scheme. There is no uniformity to any certain scheme, nor should there be. Judging from the writing in this book, it appears these chapters were taken from a choaching conference on the 3-4 defense. The authors for each chapter are successful high school and college coaches. I currently have been running a 46 defense with my team, but am going to switch to a 3-4 this season and this book has helped me in my plans tremendously. I would recommend this book to any coach, whether they run a 3-4 scheme or even if they just want to know more about the 3-4 scheme to coach against it!

Not what you would think. Very basic book with a lot of filler rather than expert info. Would be good for a novice.

Moonbreeze wasn't bad. I just felt it could have been better.

First of all, I have enjoyed reading this series so far. It is a great idea, and I am so thankful to Adrienne Woods for creating a world that I can escape to when the humdrum of life becomes annoyingly...well...humdrum. I am always a little sad to finish a Dragnonian book, and when the series ends I will miss it.

My favorite part about the story is Blake, which is embarrassing. I am a grown woman and a dark, angry, fit-throwing teenage boy (who happens to double as a bad-a*** dragon) should not be my favorite part about a book. But it is. I also like when the author explores Elena's character growth (even though most of the time she has tunnel vision, but I have to remind myself that she is young), especially when she becomes super BA and claims the Rubicon in the arena. It took FOREVER getting there, and not to mention there were so many side plots and twists e.g., Elena suddenly becoming a dragon (which threatened to derail everyone's accurate predictions of Elena's true identity and who she was to Blake). The whole Cara thing was so long, but in the end worth it. That moment in the arena––when she finally ascended and made Blake yield––it gave me goosebumps. I remember reaching across the couch to give my very confused and very lost husband a hundred's worth of high fives and fist bumps; that was the level of my excitement.

Elena had finally ascended.
She had kinda met her true father.
She had CLAIMED THE RUBICON!!!

The wait was over!

Or so I'd thought...

First I had to wait for the next installment to be published. Then the author postponed the release date. I was bummed, but I understood. That being said, I think the author was right to go with her gut and push the date back. Still, I felt that the writing seemed rushed and the plot forced into a stilted awkwardness just so that the dysfunctional relationship between Elena and Blake could continue to flourish way past it's expiration date. I know that every girl loves the tug-and-pull of uncertainty when love is just an inclination and our fancy is perpetuated by the hope to tame that ever-elusive-bad-boy, but there is a point where it pushes past dramatic, cycles into something repetitive, and solidifies into an entity that is both complacent and unconvincing.

I don't want that.

I want the protagonist's relationship to have a balance between extraordinary and believable. I also don't want to be pushed into thinking the main female character couldn't even figure her way out of a box if she needed to.

It also seemed that there were a lot more grammatical errors this time (of course, I am no expert). Whole words were missing, and I'd have to guess what the author left out. I have also noticed that whenever there are tons of characters in a scene talking or planning amongst themselves, pronouns were tossed around the page like there is only one boy and one girl apart of the context. It is sometimes confusing and disruptive (even more so when we've just been introduced to a flock of new characters), and I think it would be nice if those parts could have a bit more clarity.

Overall––I am hoping in that last book I won't have to deal with Elena's insecurities, especially about Blake. Some serious stuff went down in Moonbreeze, so I'd like to see Elena grow into the person she was meant to be. I don't want the writing to use Blake as a fallback to keep reader's interest either. Ultimately, if I have to spend around 700 pages reading about the Blake/dent/"are his affections real" arc, I think I will vomit.

In the end, this series has so much potential. It really is one of my favorites. I hope that in the last book wherever the author decides to take it, it goes there naturally. Moonbreeze wasn't bad. I just felt it could have been better.

What the heck!?!?.....NOT suitable for under 18!

I really liked the first three books in the series, but this one ......Two stars is REALLY generous. First of all, this book seems completely unnecessary, the whole plot of this book seemed to be mostly filler.....and everything ended up basically where it started! There was no progress to the overall story (the bad guy, the relationship between Elena and Blake, etc.).
Secondly, Elena didn't grow as a person AT ALL....if anything she seemed weak, fragile and selfish. And finally, my biggest issue was the "sensitive content"...I'm still ticked off 2 days later!

WARNING SPOILER AHEAD!!!

The "sensitive content" was that a main character is RAPED by multiple guys (and there is plenty of description too)! I mean, WTH..... I was completely surprised and livid at this turn of events. For one, the event didn't add much to the story besides giving Elena another reason to close off from everyone a.d create a lot of drama. Second, if anyone had told me that this was the drive behind the whole plot in this book, I probably would have not read it. Thirdly, I don't read YA for graphic, horrific events.....there's plenty of that in the real world (just pick up a newspaper).....I read YA so that I DON'T have those kind of surprises!

I was so disappointed with this book, and would NOT let young teens read this. If this is the direction of the series, I'm not sure will finish it.....and I will definitely read a LOT of reviews before trying it.

Slow and disappointing

I must really be the only one who could put this book down. I loved the last books and was very much eager to read this one. That said...
I am extremely disappointed by the plot and wish an editor had stepped in and said, wait, we're doing what to our main character?!
The last book left us with such an open and hopeful story line...then Adrienne Woods decided to latch on to the moping and hormonal sides of the main characters and utter devastation of Elena in the most basic way possible.
Blake was understandable since his path was set until he Dented but Elena was down-right pathetic. The biggest disappointment was how she had to undergo a traumatic life event and how it affected all of the characters around her; most of all Blake. I get they are young but who wants to read a story about teenage angst.
Bottom line is that I am shocked and appalled Adrienne felt this was the way to go, especially so far into the series. I am honestly not sure I want to finish when the last book comes out. There was so much that could have taken place to advance the story in Moonbreeze and it's like she decided to make a pit stop in the dirt.

Keep writing those western historicals, Geralyn!

HER BODYGUARD begins the Bad Luck Brides, formerly known as the McBride Menaces, with the story of Maribeth "Mari" McBride. Geralyn Dawson once again proves she is a masterful storyteller who keeps readers eagerly turning the pages. Mari is a strong, intelligent heroine with spunk enough for two women. She's a match for any man. Her father just wishes the man was NOT Luke Garrett. Must she choose between Luke and her family? If only she knew what--and who--to believe about him. It's a wonderful story with surprising twists and was over too soon. But it's a story I know I'll reread and I can hardly wait for the next Bad Luck Bride, Katrina's story in December 2005, HER SCOUNDREL.

Talk about redundant........

The premise as noted in the other reviews is totally accurate. The hero is a hunk of the first order....and Maribeth is also quite a gal. The dialogue is cute. BUT.......the underlying thoery of the bad luck curse is soooo stupid and really unclear to begin with. The second thing I thoroughly disliked is the repeated reference to the 'mcbride menaces'. How many times does it have to be repeated to understand that Kat, Mari and sister Emma were always into mischief. I found this so annoying I nearly didn't finish the book but the hunk kept me turning pages.

Don't plan on reading this author again....I wanted to give it a 2 but the characters are well written and fair is fair....

Back in the Bad Luck Wedding Series, readers first met the McBride Menances, three mischief loving sisters bent on wrecking havoc and having fun. Emma, Kat, and Mari would give Huck Finn, the Weasley twins, and Tristan Farnon a run for the money and lives. Growing up hasn't changed them much. Love, however, as the song says, changes everything, at least to a degree. Emma marries and is widowed in only months, then loses her youngest sister in a tragic fire. However, Mari gets a clue that indicates Kat is still alive, and sets off to find the truth. With her is Kat's lover's brother. Luke fights with her at every turn, but she finds it stimulating. Once the mystery of what happened to Kat is solved, Mari might be willing to solve the mystery of love.

Her Bodyguard is nothing new. Fans of this particular formula will find it an exceptionally pleasing book. Mari follows in the steps of Jo March as the unconventional sister who takes care of her siblings. Those who have followed the series that began with the Bad Luck Wedding Dress and Bad Luck Wedding Cake will enjoy seeing how the imps grew to adulthood.

About the Author
Jane P. Mallor has taught business law at Indiana University since 1976. During that time she has received many teaching awards, including the Student Alumni Council Senior Faculty Award, the Faculty Colloquium for Excellence in Teaching, and the Amoco Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching.

A. James Barnes is Dean and Professor of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University. He previously won a distinguished teaching award from Indiana University’s School of Business.

Arlen W. Langvardt, currently Associate Professor of Business Law at Indiana University, received several teaching awards and in 1989 received the Holmes/Cardozo Award from the Academy of Legal Studies in Business.

About the Author
Fr. Richard Rohr is a globally recognized ecumenical teacher bearing witness to the universal awakening within Christian mysticism and the Perennial Tradition. He is a Franciscan priest of the New Mexico Province and founder of the Center for Action and Contemplation (CAC) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Fr. Richard's teaching is grounded in the Franciscan alternative orthodoxy—practices of contemplation and lived kenosis (self-emptying), expressing itself in radical compassion, particularly for the socially marginalized. Fr. Richard is the author of numerous books, including Everything Belongs, Adam’s Return, The Naked Now, Breathing Under Water, Falling Upward, Immortal Diamond, and Eager to Love: The Alternative Way of Francis of Assisi. Fr. Richard is academic Dean of the Living School for Action and Contemplation. Excellent for understanding and appreciating the Old Testament

This book examining the Old Testament and the history of the Jewish people as reflected in it, was our "textbook" for a Bible study class at our church. Fr. Rohr is thorough, perceptive and infinitely patient as he carries the reader through the centuries of the Old Testament's development toward, ultimately, its relevance to the New Testament and to our modern world. I cannot imagine a better guide. Although this book is sometimes hard to plumb, readers will be rewarded with a new understanding of and appreciation for the great figures of the Old Testament and how they went about forging a covenant with the one true God.

I bought both this book and the Great Themes of Scripture. One follows the others. Both helped me understand why is was necessary to tie both the OT and NT together.

Great Themes of Scripture, Old Testament

This book presents an overview of the great themes which are common in many Old Testament books. The book is easy to read yet inspires the reader to see in these ancient writings deep truths which are still relevant today. Most powerfully the authors site multitudinous examples of God's abounding love for mankind. It is very inspirational.
