A well written book and has definitely helped me to understand both sides of the mistress/slave world

I came across this book during research for an article I was writing. I had little understanding of Mistress/Slave scenario's and to be honest struggled to understand why it is appealing. I am open minded, but personally would be unable to hand over my life to someone else or even want to take on the responsibility for someone else. After being a single parent for 15yrs, I was happy to be relieved of all decision making when they left home. However, Lucy Fairbourne does a very good job of explaining why men hold it in high esteem and how a woman can work it to her advantage. She also clearly dispels the notion it is all about leather and crops. It is not. According to Fairbourne, it is only possible to set up these scenarios in strong, loving and caring relationships, were leather only makes an appearance if the Mistress wants it. It's not about fulfilling fantasies, but creating an acceptable way of life for both parties. A well written book and has definitely helped me to understand both sides.

I feel like this book was a great introductory in to the femdom lifestyle but it wasn't as hardcore as I hoped it would be. Gave me some great ideas though, just not enough in the torture department.

A HUSTLER'S WORST NIGHTMARE

I am a 61 year young female. When I started reading this novel I did not think I would finish. It was hard to read all the vulgarity. However, I became very intrigued in the lives of the sisters and just bleeped them out. The author was able to involve me in the action and capture my full attention. I never put the book down, sometimes I even caught myself talking to the characters. Worst nightmare is correct. I was pleasantly surprised with the ending. Would love to see the novel made into a movie. I look to see Derrick King's next book.

Zikeema, Emani, Diamond, and twins Tori and Stori have been raised since youth to get their hustle game on. They were left in the care of their Uncle Flea upon the death of their father due to a robbery gone awry. Uncle Flea takes his responsibility seriously and to the best of his ability tries to instill values resulting in dollar bills that will ensure their lifestyles long after he is gone.

Eldest sister Emani is a successful attorney that has a lover that she's afraid to reveal to the world. Married mom Tori is living a double life of which her husband Jerome is excluded. Diamond has a fetish which constantly results in her always needing more money. Zikeema likes to walk on the wild side that may cost her dearly in the end. And Stori develops a softening of the heart that may bring a change to all of their lives, or will it?

A Hustler's Worst Nightmare is a magnificent read! Relatable characters that as a reader you fall victim to their antics as you become enthralled in their numerous plights. Derrick King has definitely penned a captivating read with this novel, one that will surely be talked about in years to come from one book addict to another! Super job Mr. King...kudos to you!

About the Author

Shafiullah Khan is an assistant professor at the Institute of InformationTechnology (IIT) at the Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST), K.P.K, Pakistan. His research interests include wireless mesh networks, ad hoc networks, sensor networks, and wireless network security. He is the editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Communication Networks and Information Security (IJCNIS).

The production is exceptional in my copy including the printing. The images and indexing are especially well handled. Though it did not strike me as particularly biographical, Sudjic's text provides ample contextual information with plenty of references to other members of Kuramata's milieu. In total, this excellent two volume edition is certainly a worthy monument to the brilliant designer whose career it represents.

Stephanie W. Jamison is Professor of Asian Languages and Cultures and of Indo-European Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. She has published widely in Indo-European and Indo-Iranian linguistics, poetics, and mythology and is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the American Oriental Society.

Joel P. Brereton is Associate Professor of Asian Studies at the University of Texas, Austin. He has taught in both Religious Studies and Asian Studies programs and has written on the literature and religion of the Veda, especially the Rigveda and the early Upanishads, and on Vedic ritual.

Former translations were at best sketchy approximations to the Sanskrit text

First scholarly edition in English in over a hundred years. That says it all - and the publication of such a translation has been a greatly desired and long awaited event. Former translations were at best sketchy approximations to the Sanskrit text, and while it is admitted that no translation will fully reveal the meanings of the original in its written form, we are far better served by this one, based as it is on a long history of intense scholarship on the culture, language, and religion of the Vedic people, than ever we were previously. There is an 80+ page introduction giving the essence of contemporary scholarship and an overview of Vedic culture along with short accounts of each of the principle Vedic deities, and each hymn/poem has its own short introduction giving some view of the meaning, poetics, and ritual underpinnings involved. Of course, it is quite expensive, and many will still be adequately served for the price by Wendy Doniger's selections. But if you can afford it, this is the text to buy.

A landmark

I met Professor Brereton in 2005 as he was working on this translation...finally, it is here, the first member of the Indo-European literary tradition, translated, in full, in English. The translators, Joel Brereton and Stephanie Jamison, are masters of this complex language and material and one could thus hardly imagine a better team to produce this long awaited translation. Though I have not read the entire translation yet, in reading prominent hymns, my sense is that the result is excellent and we profit greatly from a combination of ample introductory materials, introductions to briefly set up each hymn, as well as fresh renderings of the hymns themselves. Without doubt this is THE standard translation and will likely remain so just as long as its previous English incarnation - some 100 years.

Gambling, Love, Romance - Ah, Perfect!

PLAYING THE ODDS is another in the MacGregor family saga and yes, the famous matchmaking Scot, Daniel MacGregor, is involved once again.

Daniel's daughter, Serena, had decided to escape the responsibilities that go hand-in-hand with her family and became a blackjack dealer on a cruise ship named Celebration. She only wanted a couple of years to enjoy life and see the world. She figured this was an excellent way to do so. After letting his daughter enjoy her freedom for a bit, Daniel decided it was time for Serena to help continue the family bloodline and get on with her life. He arranged for her to meet the man of her dreams. The only problem was that Serena didn't know she had a man of her dreams.

As is Daniel MacGregor's style, he doesn't interfere per se, he just places two people he thinks are perfect for each other in close proximity and lets the magic of romance take over from there. He's batting 1000, so he must be doing something right. I'd like Nora Roberts to spend a little more time in the mind of Daniel MacGregor. I'd like to see just how Daniel figures out who is right for whom and how he knows things will always work to his expectations. Is it magic or an insight that is rare?

After some thought, Daniel decided that one of his business associates needed a vacation. Since he was the perfect man for his daughter Serena, he encouraged Justin Blade to take a cruise to relax. Daniel figured that since Justin was a gambler and owner of a casino, he would just happen to visit the onboard casino once or twice and that would all it would take to get this romantic escapade on it's way.

What Daniel didn't expect was that Serena would not want to marry Justin right off, but instead work with him at the casino for awhile. Serena didn't want to gamble with her heart and decided the situation needed more time to evolve.

During this evolution, an old enemy of Justin's with a debt to pay makes an appearance and kidnaps Serena. Justin does everything in his power to get Serena back and Daniel is beside himself with worry.

Ok, that's it, I'm not telling you the ending, you'll have to get a copy of this one and read it for yourself! It's definitely worth the time and is a very enjoyable journey. By the way, in my opinion, any book with the MacGregor's involved has to be a good one and PLAYING THE ODDS doesn't disappoint the reader!

Arlington He is also shot at in the cemetary.. He begins pursuit of the villain Nikolai Kurshin. He is a former Spetsnaz soldier for Russia. McGarvey takes his new partner Pete Bioylan and they go to Monaco. They have some near misses. They finally settle their differences in
the castle in Portugal. Be sure to read this book.

Good quick read

I always enjoy reading any Kirk McGarvey book and this is no exception. I didn't notice that this is more of a novella than a full book until it ended very abruptly. It would help if you had read the other books in the series, although this book starts out with a good synopsis of what happened previously. I really look forward to reading the next full novel which coes out next month. You can't go wrong with a Kirk McGarvey book

I gave this one four stars, because unlike some of the earlier ones in this compelling series, the plotline seems straight and predictable, without the twists and turns and depth of characterization so like most of the others. A straightforward revenge story. However, still a good read, with interesting locales and more than enough tension to keep you wanting more. Recommended.

A comfortable personal amazing world-wide history of a Cornish/African/Canadian lady (my cousin-in-law actually)

I enjoyed reading this personal history of an amazing life ranging from England to Southern Africa to Canada. It will not be a best seller, but it includes personal touches that would be hard to find in a more commercial book. It would make a very interesting movie but given all the locales, there could be substantial cost involved! Worth a read!

Excellent choice for reluctant teen readers

This is a quality title that is accessible for reluctant readers. The premise will capture their interest and the fast-paced action will hold their attention. It may not be a Printz contender, but it's well-written, engaging and definitely serves a purpose. I'd highly recommend it for teen readers.

Will keep readers rooting for the boys and their overwhelming odds right through to the end

Gecko Fosse drove the getaway car for another of his brother Ruben's thieving escapades. Arjay Moran fought back against some bullies, and one was killed accidentally after a punch. Terence Florian planned a robbery that others in a Chicago gang he wanted to join committed. All are in lockup and miserable.

Douglas Healy designed a pilot program for juvenile offenders. These three are chosen to live with him in an apartment, go to school, attend therapy sessions and be involved in community service. One slip-up and the boys will go back to prison.

Terence has no intention of toeing the line; he aims to run away as soon as possible. Gecko and Arjay know that if he disappears, they will be sent back. One night, while the three are arguing, Healy tries to intervene and is accidentally knocked unconscious. The boys drop him off at a hospital and live in fear of the consequences.

Nothing happens the next day, and they all go to school and work as if nothing happened. Gecko sneaks into the hospital to learn that Healy has no memory of who he is or what had occurred. In order to keep an eye on him, Gecko pretends to be a volunteer there. Then he meets Roxanne, another volunteer, and falls in love. Roxanne's wealthy, well-connected family threatens him, and he does not want to return to prison.

Arjay makes Gecko and Terence do their homework and keep all appointments so no one will suspect Healy is gone. But he also sneaks in some guitar practice at school and with a band at a nightclub. He finds success beyond his dreams, but knows he is now jeopardizing his freedom and those of his two friends as he becomes more known.

Meanwhile, Terence tries to get in with a gang again, finding a way to set up another robbery to court favor. When that doesn't make them accept him, and when they ask him to do something truly harmful to another person, he realizes that this is not who he wants to be. But now he has made some bad guys quite angry.

Healy is transferred to a mental institution because he still doesn't know who he is. Gecko, Arjay and Terence know they can't let him stay in that awful place; they need to band together and find some allies to help them out. Very few trust them with their criminal past, and many would just as soon see them all get sent back to prison.

The clock is ticking for all of them. The dialogue and brotherhood developing among the three boys speak true amidst a crazy situation. Would you do the right thing if no one was watching you? From thinking about surviving the next prison beating to finding out what they want for their future, they grow through every exciting page.

Prolific author Gordon Korman uses his usual humor in THE JUVIE THREE, but adds a suspenseful edge that will keep readers rooting for the boys and their overwhelming odds right through to the end.

Much better than I expected....

Another book club hit!

I was really worried when I started this one that it was going to be like a Walter Dean Meyers book. (Not that I don't love those; I do. I've just read a lot of them already.) You know the scenario. Troubled teens get a second chance, but someone blows it. Will they do the right thing or not? Very plaid out cliche in literature, I think. Well, thankfully Gordon Korman came along and gave it fresh insight.

Yes, the cliche remains, but he doesn't beat the dead horse. There are no neat little bows wrapping up the plot at the end. No rainbows and unicorns-- at least not completely. Yes, there is that obvious "happy ending" that you knew was coming (so don't whine about a spoiler). BUT somethings were not solved in the way you might think. That made it believable, and I am thankful that not everything ended up sugary sweet.

The characters are a nice compliment to one another as well. Gecko is shy but funny. Arjay is misunderstood and layered. And Terrance is your basic pain in the arse thug wannabe. They interact nicely with one another, giving the perfect combination of conflict throughout the book. There were minor characters that make appearances too, but they aren't all that memorable. Ms. Vaughn makes me laugh with her obvious stereotypes, but beyond that... bleh.

It's a quick read. I flew threw it in two sittings. Great descriptions and some seriously funny LOL moments. I think MG readers would enjoy this one if they like stories about troubled youth getting second chances.
