Skip the false advertising and read the original instead

One piece of golden advice from this book and its predecessor: think of others and do something nice they will value. So here goes: don't buy this book; buy the original instead. You can stop reading this review now, or read on for more detail, which I will try to make entertaining through strong language.
What made Carnegie's original book such a classic was that it was filled with engaging examples, told as stories. Even if you weren't a fan of social theory, you could enjoy the book because the lessons were delivered through mini-story after mini-story, many with surprise endings. Some of the challenges from these early 20th century stories made modern problems seem almost easy!. But this modern version of the book is lots of rambling theory and high minded rhetoric from the new authors - not practical examples like in the original. Guess what, new authors? We're not here to read about celebrities you met and ad campaigns from already-established wealthy companies and page after page of intellectual self love about what you think of so and so; we're here to learn how to win friends and influence people! (oops, I ignored the lesson not to condemn, criticize, or complain - but then again I'm doing it to save you, dear review reader, from spending time or money on this book).
Oh right. As my dad helpfully pointed out, section 4 of this book is pretty helpful and well organized. It reads more in the spirit of Carnegie's original, with research and stories to make the points about leadership.
But something everyone should know is that this book simply does not address any of the items advertised on back cover such as how to "optimize the power of digital tools" or "convey a mastery of the Web 2.0." But these are key buzzwords (or at least they were a few years ago) so it's a really strong move in the world of false advertising.

It is an awesome book. Dale Carnegie's book is as important today, maybe even more so, as it was when it was written.
I truly believe all could benefit from reading this regardless of being a stay at home mom to a CEO of a company..
